An eight-year-old boy sustained significant injuries involving fireworks Monday evening in Cascades.

The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the incident, which resulted in second-degree burns covering 45 percent of the child's upper body and arms. It is thought that the fireworks the child was holding ignited his shirt.

Around 8:30 p.m. the child was taken to the burn unit at Children's Hospital in D.C. from the area of Potomac View Road near Palisades Parkway. No further information is currently being released on the child's state.
